Common boiler faults we repair
Low pressure and leaks
Pressure that keeps dropping usually means water is escaping somewhere in the system, from a radiator valve, a joint, the pressure relief valve or inside the boiler. We find and fix the leak rather than just topping the system up.
Lockouts and error codes
Most modern boilers display a fault code when something goes wrong. The code points to the area of the fault, such as ignition, flame detection, overheating or pressure, but diagnosis confirms the actual cause.
Frozen condensate pipes
Condensing boilers drain water through a condensate pipe. If an external pipe freezes in cold weather, the boiler will shut down. We can clear the blockage and advise on reducing the chance of it happening again.
No hot water, or heating only
When a boiler provides heating but not hot water (or the reverse), the fault is often in a diverter valve, a control, or the cylinder side of the system. We trace it and fix it.
Repair or replace?
If your boiler is old, parts are hard to get, or repairs keep coming, a new boiler may cost less over time. We'll give you the facts and a free replacement quote so you can decide. New installations start from £1,700 + VAT.
What to check before you call
A few simple checks can sometimes get the heating back on or help us diagnose faster. Look at the pressure gauge: many boilers stop working if pressure falls too low. Check the thermostat and timer are calling for heat, and that the settings haven't been changed. Make sure the boiler has power and the gas supply to other appliances is working. If there's a fault code on the display, note it down and tell us when you call.
If none of that helps, don't keep resetting the boiler repeatedly. A boiler that keeps locking out is telling you something is wrong, and repeated resets can make some faults worse.
