Moving a boiler into the loft
Loft installations are popular because they free up space in living areas. A loft needs safe access, a fixed floor around the boiler, lighting and a suitable flue route. We'll check these during the survey.
Moving with a combi conversion
If you're switching from a system boiler to a combi, the cylinder and loft tanks are removed at the same time, which frees up even more space. We check water pressure and flow first to make sure a combi suits your home.
Flue positions
Flues must be positioned away from windows, doors and boundaries according to regulations. This sometimes limits where a boiler can go, and it's one of the main things we plan around.
Condensate drainage
Condensing boilers need a condensate drain. Where possible, we route it internally to reduce the risk of freezing in winter.
Combining a boiler move with other work
The most cost-effective time to move a boiler is when other work is already happening. If you're refitting a kitchen, the boiler can come off the wall before the new units go in. If you're renovating a bathroom or converting a loft, the pipework can be rerouted while floors and walls are open. That avoids paying twice for disruption and making good.
It's also worth considering whether the boiler itself should be replaced at the same time. Moving an older boiler costs almost as much labour as fitting a new one, and a new boiler from Worcester Bosch, Vaillant or Alpha can come with an extended manufacturer warranty.
What affects the price of a boiler move
The main factors are how far the boiler is moving, how much gas, heating and water pipework needs rerouting, the flue route at the new position, and whether a condensate drain can be run easily. A loft move also depends on access, flooring and lighting. Every quote we send sets these out clearly, so you know exactly what you're paying for.
Access for servicing
Wherever the boiler goes, it needs to be reachable for its annual service and any future repairs. We'll position it with enough clearance around it and make sure the controls are easy to use day to day.
A real example
One of our customers asked us to switch them from a system boiler to a combi boiler and re-site it in the loft. Doing both in one job freed up the airing cupboard, removed the cylinder and gave them hot water on demand. They described the work as clean, professional and spot on.
